Expounds on Revelation to his wife:
seven seals then
something about
three branches
of the Church.
There's Dad years back
and his Endtime models.
Up from Harborne Baptist
a poster peels:
scratched and bleary colours;
words aren't words anymore.
Off one stop too far.

ReplyDeleteEnd Times may have kicked off already, without our having looked up to notice.
Those years of Fear and Dread over the Bomb did not happen for no reason. The only thing missed was the fact that human coldness was always going to be a greater danger even than the Bomb.
And in any case, in any time we are only as wise as the Books we chose to believe in.
Each is given a bag of tools,
a shapeless mass and a Book of Rules.
Better than no Book at all, still.
It's good to have the measure of something. Here's to the builders of eternity, wherever those last souls may be and however futile that work may seem.
ReplyDeleteI still hold out the hope the glossy shadows don't subsume everything.
That subsuming of everything by the grey glossy-shadow avatars concealed within the invisible workings of the data centre and the smartphone is exactly what I had in mind.
ReplyDeleteEndtime means they own your thoughts before you have had a chance to think them.
It's now a game of which the rules are kept in sacred books we aren't allowed to read For Security Reasons. And this is Revelations. And words aren't words any more.
But when no one's looking (is there ever such a time??), I can't keep from unconsciously over-writing that latest bit of control-code with the anxious interrogative out of an earlier spurious text, Isaiah.
Watchman, what of the night?
