For Elise and Starr
Water's invented
some centuries ago and
shut in
Red coat
flares out
Now the trews are piractickal and
chosen
A head of
deliberate hair
Words just
make it
as words
Water's still but
isn't frozen
Look through
haw
thorn
spare and close to where
the horses have coats too
Sun's up to
show cold
Remember: this
is walking
Crisp: the ears
listening
This is us
Look through
ReplyDeletehaw
thorn
spare and close...
So delicate, much as careful footsteps on hard winter earth.
(Put in mind of the white hawthorn showing bravely in a hardfrozen season of Advent on the fenlands, exactly half a century ago...)
Just back from those fens today (sadly, no white hawthorn showed itself).
ReplyDeleteWe were out in the twilight yesterday and the Wooden Girl turned to me and said "Many sky." I couldn't disagree.
